What is a Transition Town?
The Transition Movement is a global movement that seeks to inspire, catalyze and support community responses to peak oil and climate chaos. Citizens gather together in their own communities using their own knowledge, skills, creativity and imagination, have been coming up with exciting projects to make their communities more livable, healthy and resilient.

Transition Towns is a positive and solutions-focused movement that encourages people in communities around the world to come up with local solutions to climate chaos and peak oil. and is developing a diversity of tools for building resilience and happiness around the world.

From organizing local food groups, to creating local currencies, from building with natural sustainable materials to creating alternative energy collectives, people active with Transition towns seek to transform fear of our uncertain future into desire for, and action on, change.

The Transition movement sees the inevitable end of the Oil Age as a tremendous opportunity for a profound rethink of how we use resources and how to build a healthier, more connected, self-reliant, and interdependent society, one community at a time.

Why do we need it?
We are entering times of extraordinarily rapid change. We are moving from a time when our economic success and our very sense of personal prowess and well-being were linked directly to our degree of consumption, to one where our consumption directly equates to our degree of vulnerability.

It is necessary to urgently design and implement low carbon, resilient ways of living. As the Transition movement says: “climate chaos makes this imperative, peak oil makes it inevitable, and Transition initiatives make it feasible and desirable”.

Indeed, Transition Oakville endeavors to create visions of a post-carbon world so enticing, so compelling and attractive that people leap out of bed in the morning looking forward to what they can do next.
